Sweden
Historically protestant via a State Lutheran church (dismantled in 2000) and many Pentecostal and Charismatic churches. Sweden is becoming more and more a secular state and is systematically marginalizing religious views in the public discourse. A secular, post-modern Worldview dominates society. Only 23% report to believe in a personal God and adherence to absolute truth is regarded as “intolerance”
Foursquare Sweden
The Foursquare church was first established in Gothenburg, Sweden’s second largest city, in 2016. In 2017 churches were established in Stockholm and a Chinese church in Gothenburg. In 2021 churches are being planted in Uppsala, Örnsköldsvik and Nymanshamn with mission projects in Varberg and Umeå.
While this nation is in the pioneering stages of our four-stage model of development, the local leaders and congregations are cared for, overseen and resourced by a multi-national area called the “Nordic-Baltic Association of Foursquare Churches”. It is lead by a team of Elders providing guidance, care and functional structures and representation to the FEFC Elder council. The Nordic-Baltic Foursquare Assoication is a part of the FEFC region and fully approved by its board of directors.
